It was an unexpected trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia. I never thought of it to happen soon. As I got my necessary travel
authority documents, packed my suitcase and went on.
CS/CALT 15-01: the first Scouting Leadership Training
Course in Cambodia. Such a historical
event for Cambodian Scouts with 9 international scout participants. One of
them was I.
Siem Reap was far from my bucket country of interest to
visit. Visiting Siem Reap to me is just like going to a Philippine suburban province down
south. No surprises or travel excitement.Fairly an ordinary place for me. However,
during my 10-day stay where I got along with my Cambodian colleagues
…… something has changed, I was enlightened.
More than physical features which is really very
similar, people of Siem Reap is like folks in Nagcarlan fifty or so years ago:
selfless, sincere, humble and hospitable. Perhaps due to my similar
appearance, I became the most adorable person to be invited by the locals in
many places in Siem Reap. It was
flattering but I enjoyed the experience.

Given another change, I will be willing to visit Siem
reap again. With friendly populaces,
affordable places to stay and great food, it is going to be another delightable
experience.
